Weekend Dose of Cute: It Was Sheep Shearing Saturday!

So excited they can hardly stand it—not.

More photos coming soon. Sheep shearing day is always a little exhausting, even if you aren't doing the actual shearing—or getting sheared. But thankfully it went really well. And now we're all busy recovering.

© 2010 FarmgirlFare.com, the suddenly svelte looking (well, except for all the pregnant bellies) foodie farm blog where this is one of stock dog Lucky Buddy Bear's favorite days of the year—he loves it when the sheep are all neatly crammed into a tiny space, especially if he's in there with them.

Can sheep ever look really excited? I think their ears will always make them look mellow & nonplussed with life. "Silly humans, I'm just going to grow it all back again!"

Rest up, that must have been one hell of a tiring day.

  8. Love the peak into the corner of your new barn. When do we get to see the whole thing? Soon? Looks like you have divided up the sheep into two groups - boys/girls, pregnant/not pregnant?

  11. Funny...it was sheep shearing day at our farm yesterday, too. We (meaning a 21-year old hired shearer with a strong back) sheared 110 ewes. I would post photos on my blog, but I'm exhausted from watching him (and skirting all that wool and sweeping between fleeces) AND my camera has gone missing in all the frenzy. I hope it didn't get in one of those big bags of wool...

Isn't it nice to have that job done?

  13. Loved looking at all the sheep. I had missed Lucky in there till I finished reading your post. Got a chuckle out of him just sitting there looking as anxious to get this over with as the sheep.

  15. Had to really look hard to find Buddy..... I can't wait that it is sheep-shearing time already! Is winter really over out there?

  16. Hey can you answer a question for any of us non-farmgirls? As it is snowing up a storm and still pretty cold here in the Northeast, when is the optimal time to shear the sheep?? Are they still warm for the remaining month or so of winter temps and cooler early spring temperatures???

  17. I wonder what they are all thinking? ;)

  19. Hi Everybody!
Thanks for all the comments. I'm working on a massive sheep shearing post which I'm hoping to have up later today, and will do my best to include answers to all of your questions in it.

In the meantime, thanks to Ruth for pointing out this previous post where I talk about why we're shearing so early in the year. You'll also find more sheep shearing posts by cliking on the 'sheep shearing' label at the bottom of this post (just above the comments).

And for those of you who are wondering, yes, that is indeed the inside of the fabulous new sheep barn. And no, I still haven't posted the step by step construction photos - but I promise I will one of these days! : )

December 2015 update: Hi! For some reason I can't figure out, Blogger hasn't been letting me leave comments on my own blog (!) for the last several months, so I've been unable to respond to your comments and questions. My apologies for any inconvenience! You're always welcome to email me: farmgirlfare AT gmail DOT com.

Hi! Thanks for visiting Farmgirl Fare and taking the time to write. While I'm not always able to reply to every comment, I receive and enjoy reading them all.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and I especially love hearing about your experiences with my recipes. Comments on older posts are always welcome!

Please note that I moderate comments, so if I'm away from the computer it may be a while before yours appears.

I try my best to answer all questions, though sometimes it takes me a few days. And sometimes, I'm sorry to say, they fall through the cracks, and for that I sincerely apologize.
