Sun Hits Morning Mist

  1. GOD'S WORLD
    Edna St. Vincent Millay

    O world, I cannot hold thee close enough

    Thy winds, thy wide grey skies
    Thy mists, that roll and rise!

    Thy woods, this autumn day, that ache and sag

    And all but cry with color! That gaunt crag

    To crush! To lift the lean of that black bluff!

    World, World, I cannot get thee close enough!

    Long have I known a glory it in all,

    But, never knew I this;
    Here such a passion is

    That stretcheth me apart,-Lord, I do fear

    Thou'st made the world too beautiful this year;

    My soul is all but out of me,-let fall

    No burning leaf; prithee, let no bird call.

    FG, when a photograph reaches into the soul, it is poetry. The moment I looked this picture, this poem, memorized more years ago than I want to admit, came back to me. Thank you for sharing the
    "soul of your farm," and inspiring me to revisit my favorite poet
    Edna St Vincent Millay. Now, I will pull her books from my shelves for more inspiration and insight.

  2. We left the city to live in the country too. We are not as far removed from a metro area as you are, but still received the reactions from confused city dwellers. Your blog has made me appreciate even more my little house in the woods! I just love the simple and demanding life of living on a farm!! We get foggy mornings like this in Oregon. I like to call it kitty fog, it just lolls and creeps around because it has nothing better to do...

  3. Susan,
    That doesn't even look real. It's like something imagined.

December 2015 update: Hi! For some reason I can't figure out, Blogger hasn't been letting me leave comments on my own blog (!) for the last several months, so I've been unable to respond to your comments and questions. My apologies for any inconvenience! You're always welcome to email me: farmgirlfare AT gmail DOT com.

Hi! Thanks for visiting Farmgirl Fare and taking the time to write. While I'm not always able to reply to every comment, I receive and enjoy reading them all.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and I especially love hearing about your experiences with my recipes. Comments on older posts are always welcome!

Please note that I moderate comments, so if I'm away from the computer it may be a while before yours appears.

I try my best to answer all questions, though sometimes it takes me a few days. And sometimes, I'm sorry to say, they fall through the cracks, and for that I sincerely apologize.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy your e-visits to our farm!
