Don't Build Your Nest Deep Inside The Hay Baler

  1. Super, you saved the nest?
Did you see the owners or only their feathers ?!!

  2. Oh my. I think I may have given the wrong impression with that caption.

    Mijo and Pablo,
Not to worry--we did not bale up a bird! Joe was in the farmyard hooking up the baler (this was last month when we put up hay for the first time) and called me over. "Please do something with that," he said, pointing into the baler. Way inside this dark crevice was a nest! I stuck my little arm in there and pulled it out, trying to keep it intact. Hopefully it was abandoned, but there was no way we could leave it in there even if it wasn't. She did a great job building it, and sure picked a safe location! Well, safe until we needed to use the baler.

This nest is much larger than the ones in my collection, so I left it outside on my potting bench in the farmyard. I enjoy looking at it, and am hoping that other birds will be able to recycle some of it.

Can anyone see the special building material she used?

  7. Oh Cherrybegonia,
You can't give up that easily! Keep thinking. . .What do we have around here that most people don't? : )

December 2015 update: Hi! For some reason I can't figure out, Blogger hasn't been letting me leave comments on my own blog (!) for the last several months, so I've been unable to respond to your comments and questions. My apologies for any inconvenience! You're always welcome to email me: farmgirlfare AT gmail DOT com.

Hi! Thanks for visiting Farmgirl Fare and taking the time to write. While I'm not always able to reply to every comment, I receive and enjoy reading them all.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and I especially love hearing about your experiences with my recipes. Comments on older posts are always welcome!

Please note that I moderate comments, so if I'm away from the computer it may be a while before yours appears.

I try my best to answer all questions, though sometimes it takes me a few days. And sometimes, I'm sorry to say, they fall through the cracks, and for that I sincerely apologize.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy your e-visits to our farm!
